Helena Julian is an independent curator and writer based in Amsterdam. With a background in art history and critical theory, she focuses on interdisciplinary and performative artistic practices. She is committed to work that engages with language, embodiment and affect. Her recent projects and writings examine how contemporary artists reflect or resist the cultural and social contexts that shape their work, and how performance is enacted and valued in contemporary art.
In addition to working closely with artists to develop and contextualize new interdisciplinary works, she often guides emerging artists in the public presentation of their practices, such as in her role as co-curator of the eight edition of Currents, organised by Marres Maastricht and Z33 Hasselt. Helena writes for Dutch and international art media including Metropolis M and Frieze, and works as co-editor in chief of the music culture publication zweikommasieben. She has worked as an advisor for the Mondriaan Fonds since 2025, and is the curator of the 2026 and 2027 edition of the Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst 3PackageDeal.
